Getting to Know Silica Gel
A naturally occurring material, silica gel is a modified version of the mineral silicon dioxide (SiO2), which is very effective in absorbing water due to its large surface area and processing into granular form. Silica gel is more accurately described as a solid than a gel, despite the name. The porous beads inside the packets can soak up a lot of water, which means they’ll keep rust, mildew, and mold at bay.
